The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) will continue to offer a viable solution for bolstering global governance and infusing robust momentum into the world's economic growth, China's top foreign trade and investment promotion agency said on Monday.

With the Belt and Road CEO Conference set to be held in Beijing on Tuesday, Yu Jianlong, vice-chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, or CCPIT, one of the conference organizers, said agreements on a significant number of practical cooperation projects, involving domestic as well as foreign partners, will be signed during the conference.

"These projects span 68 countries and regions and encompass various industries, including infrastructure, clean energy, artificial intelligence, biopharmaceuticals, financial services, modern agriculture and rail transportation," Yu said on Monday.

In terms of the number of projects, the countries involved and the deal amounts, the projects significantly surpass the last CEO conference, which was held in 2019, he added.

The conference is expected to bring together more than 1,200 participants.

Over the past decade, the BRI has contributed to the development of over 3,000 cooperative projects worldwide and has been a driving force behind the substantial expansion of the China-Europe freight train service, the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and the Air Silk Road, Yu said.

The BRI has also brought valuable opportunities for the development of participant countries, providing support in poverty alleviation, job creation and improving people's livelihoods, in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, said Zhao Ping, dean of the CCPIT Academy.

Over the past decade, Chinese companies have created more than 420,000 jobs in overseas economic and trade cooperation zones in countries involved in the BRI, data from the CCPIT showed.

China's trade with economies involved in the BRI rose 3.1 percent year-on-year to 14.32 trillion yuan in the first three quarters of 2023, accounting for 46.5 percent of its total foreign trade value during this period, according to the General Administration of Customs.

备受瞩目的第三届“一带一路”国际合作高峰论坛将于10月17日至18日在北京举行，这是庆祝共建“一带一路”倡议十周年最隆重的活动。

高峰论坛期间，由中国贸促会、国务院国资委、全国工商联举办的“一带一路”企业家大会将于今日在国家会议中心举行。据了解，大会包括全体会议和签约仪式两个环节。

各国工商界是共建“一带一路”的参与者、贡献者和主力军。据了解，本届“一带一路”企业家大会将会有1200余人参会，中外代表约各占一半。

与会代表来自6大洲82个国家和地区的367家企业和机构，其中包括20余位外方部长级官员、33家外国商会负责人和59家世界500强企业代表。他们的到来，也充分展现出，对推进高质量共建“一带一路”的信心和期待。

会议将重点从坚持开放合作、深化互联互通、坚持绿色发展、推进数字经济合作、坚持合规经营和履行社会责任等方面，凝聚工商界互利合作共识，发布“一带一路”企业家大会北京宣言。

据介绍，在各方共同努力下，一大批中外务实合作项目将在大会期间签约。不论是项目数、涉及国别，还是签约金额，都有望超过上届“一带一路”企业家大会。

“一带一路”实施以来，所取得成绩有目共睹，数据显示，十年来，中国已同150多个国家和30多个国际组织签署了230余份共建“一带一路”合作文件，形成了3000多个合作项目，拉动了超万亿美元的投资规模，为合作国家了创造42万个就业岗位，4000多万人摆脱贫困。

海关数据显示，今年前三季度，我国对共建“一带一路”国家进出口14.32万亿元，同比增长3.1%，占进出口总值的46.5%。

Over the past decade, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has emerged as a catalyst for global scientific innovation, and a beacon of hope for those seeking a path towards global scientific cooperation, with a number of patents filed, laboratories launched and talent fostered. China has signed intergovernmental agreements on science and technology cooperation with more than 80 BRI participating countries, and established intellectual property cooperation relations with more than 50 countries and international organizations. From 2013 to 2022, a total of 67,000 patents have been filed and publicized by China in BRI participating countries, with an average annual growth rate of 26 percent. Among the 67,000 patents, the largest number of patent applications is in telecommunications, accounting for more than one-third of the total.
勾勒共建“一带一路”创新合作图谱：十年间，中国与80多个共建“一带一路”国家签署了《政府间科技合作协定》，与50多个共建国家和国际组织建立了知识产权合作关系。知识与技术在共建“一带一路”国家间流动，勾勒出了共建“一带一路”科技合作的生动图谱。从2013年到2022年，中国在共建国家一共申请公开了6.7万件专利，年平均增长率达到26%。其中，有八成以上的专利申请来自企业。十年间，申请专利的企业数量由430家增至2429家，增加了4.6倍。在基础设施建设、能源、贸易、投资等领域合作中，中国企业将其所具有的技术优势，转化成了共建“一带一路”的强大动能。6.7万件专利中，计算机通信领域的专利申请公开量最大，占到总量的三分之一以上，中国的技术助力共建国家把握新一轮全球科技革命带来的新机遇。

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee on Tuesday said the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has brought international cooperation to new heights, and vowed to further strengthen Hong Kong's role in the initiative. Speaking at the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, Lee invited business leaders to set up Belt and Road offices in Hong Kong and promote development projects that are sustainable and beneficial to people's livelihood. Lee said the SAR is committed to providing enterprises and economies in the Belt and Road regions with high-quality professional services they need in such areas as project financing, risk management, international legal services and dispute resolution, construction works, shipping and logistics, innovation and technology and so on.
李家超邀各地企业家赴港建立“一带一路办公室”：香港特区行政长官李家超17日在“一带一路”国际高峰论坛企业家大会发言时表示，“一带一路”倡议促进国际间互联互通和合作共赢，现已成为构建人类命运共同体的重大实践平台，他邀请各地企业家赴港建立“一带一路办公室”，推动更多高标准、可持续、惠民生的高质量发展项目。李家超表示，香港是“一带一路”建设的重要节点，为相关企业和经济体，提供所需的高质量专业配套，包括项目融资、风险管理、国际法律和争议解决、建筑工程、航运物流、创新科技等，让企业在参与“一带一路”项目时，得到有力支撑，大展鸿图。

Chinese tech heavyweight Baidu unveiled the latest version of its large language model, Ernie 4.0, saying its capabilities are on par with those of OpenAI's most advanced GPT-4 model. The newest version boasts enhanced core capacities in understanding, generation, reasoning and memory compared with previous models, said Robin Li, co-founder and CEO of Baidu, at Baidu World 2023, the company's annual flagship event on Tuesday. Li showcased the four main capabilities of Ernie 4.0 at the launch event. He displayed the model's generative skills to produce advertising posters and videos, tested its reasoning abilities with math problems, and evaluated its memory skills by letting it write a martial arts novel in real-time.

Chinese telecoms giant Huawei Technologies has changed the name of its payment service subsidiary to Petal Payment more than two years after it was acquired. Sharelink Network, the digital payment provider Huawei bought in 2021 to obtain a payment license, was renamed last week, according to information by the People's Bank of China released on Oct. 13. Huawei's Petal Pay is not competing but instead partners with Tencent Holdings' WeChat Pay and Alibaba Group's Alipay, which hold an over 90 percent share of China's payment market, Huawei said earlier.

Shares of New Oriental Education and Technology Group rose after the Chinese education technology firm said its e-commerce unit East Buy officially introduced an annual premium membership. East Buy will official launch a 199 yuan annual premium membership on Tuesday, the parent company said in a statement yesterday.

A unit of Anta Sports Products has acquired a 75 percent stake in Maia Active, a Chinese yoga clothing and activewear brand for women, the sportswear maker said. Founded in 2016, Maia Active has become influential in its segment and it will help Anta to develop its women’s wear business, Anta said in a statement yesterday.

China National Offshore Oil Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company KazMunayGas JSC, also known as KMG, on Monday in Beijing. As part of the agreement, the two countries will conduct joint geological research on promising exploration projects and expand cooperation on existing fields and oilfield services in Kazakhstan.
中海油与哈国油签署战略合作备忘录：10月16日，中国海油与哈萨克斯坦国家石油天然气公司在共建“一带一路”倡议提出10周年之际正式签署战略合作备忘录，双方约定在油气勘探开发、油田服务等领域加强合作，并为后续全面合作确立机制平台。

About a dozen Chinese state-owned enterprises said in stock exchanges filings on late Monday that they had purchased back their shares or plan to buy back shares in public markets. Baoshan Iron & Steel, the listed arm of the world’s largest steel producer China Baowu Steel Group will spend its own funds to buy back shares worth no more than 2.25 percent of its total or up to 3 billion yuan in the next 12 months. China Railway Construction, Three Gorges, coal miner China Coal Energy, video surveillance equipment manufacturer Hikvision Digital Technology, and chipmaker China Resources Microelectronics said that their major stockholders will raise their holdings by 100 million to 600 million yuan. Sinopec yesterday also disclosed it has paid 267 million yuan since Sept. 21 to buy back 44.7 million A-shares.

Assets held by China's 59 listed banks have surpassed 265 trillion yuan, which offered solid support to the country's real economy, data from the China Banking Association (CBA) showed. CBA's 2023 Chinese listed bank analysis report showed that China currently has six state-owned banks, 10 joint-stock banks, 30 urban commercial banks and 13 rural commercial banks. In 2022, the balance of business loans held by 58 listed banks that have disclosed annual report surpassed 84 trillion yuan, according to their annual financial reports, up 12.5 percent year-on-year. Business loans issued by listed banks accounted for nearly 60 percent of overall loan volume.

Chinese stocks rose on Tuesday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite up 0.3 percent and the Shenzhen Component gaining 0.2 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index also closed 0.8 percent higher and the TECH index edged up 0.6 percent.
